After School was one of the most iconic groups in K-pop, debuting in 2009. They had two huge hits in “Because of You” and “Bang!” in 2009 and 2010 respectively, winning many “Rookie of the Month” awards during 2009.

The group would also create the subunit Orange Caramel, which would be popular and one of the unique groups in the 2010s. From 2009-2011, After School was among the most popular groups during K-pop’s Hallyu Wave.

Yet, by 2012, the group would begin to have trouble, as their leader Kahi would leave the group. While the group did have some success in Japan from 2013-2014, by 2015, the group would become idle. Five years later in 2020, the group would quietly disband.

What happened to After School? How did they go from a dominant group that was poised to dominate in the 2010s to falling off in just three years (2009-2011)?
