The last 10 years of Beast's music catalog is like a treasure chest that a family member accidentally dropped onto my head in October 2021. When I had to choose a mix-genre Beast song as the metamorph showcase piece, it was hard. I ping-ponged between Ribbon, Butterfly and Loved, then settled for 12:30.

To say this song is wordy, is an understatement. Because I know zero Korean words, I cross-referenced multiple fan-translated texts by Beast's China and global fans, double-checked a few overly-poetic translations with Google Bing auto-translate robots too, in order to grasp the narrative essence. It was tedious but hey, this is martial art for the creative perfectionists. I hope I succeeded. But nothing is set in stone, feel free to correct me if I misunderstood anything.

Technical: there's a limit to how far I can push a home studio recorded vocal mix on a stereo track, YouTube also routinely dumbs down high dynamic range audio uploads at user playback stage. So if my vocal guide gets buried by high-mids in your listening environment, try using headphones (serious pros can contact me for less compressed files)

Project diary notes

Creating the adapted songs is fun and satisfying for me, but recording mixing quality-checking uploading them, not so much. Still, I will continue to post Korean/ Mandarin/ Japanese to English metamorph adaptations to this showcase.

I probably made this creation process look (and sound) easy, but every metamorphed song went through insane amount of re-singing and rewriting over weeks before I feel ready to "commit". Realistically speaking, I don't expect even the most seasoned pros to grasp the disciplines involved. How many singer songwriters have written effective dramatic songs in both first and second language, while adhering to a strict guideline of predetermined vowel consonant syllabic counts?

That's why I made a 'METAMORPH EXPLAINER' video. It won't tell you how intensive the entire process is, but will at least provide an idea of how rewarding AND profitable it can be - if and when this new martial art is taken seriously by East Asian pop music industry
