Memoria is GFriend's first Japanese single. Contrary to being merely a "kpop song with Japanese lyrics", this song embraces the characteristic features of jpop and was part of the era of GFriend's music where both their Japanese and Korean songs were frequently likened to anime OSTs - the most archetypal example from this era being Time for the Moon Night. The key songs of this era (Time for the Moon Night, Memoria, Sunrise, Flower) constitute an effective, cohesive set for performance purposes at GFriend's concerts.
The structure of Memoria is not unusual: introduction - verse - chorus - verse - chorus - bridge - chorus. The chorus (except the 2nd occurrence) can be viewed as made up of 2 parts, with the 2nd half being a somewhat surprising extension to the 1st half whose ending does sound like the approach of a conclusive cadential point. This technique, while innovative, is actually prevalent in GFriend's songs (a signature, sort of) - see for example, Time for the Moon Night and Sunrise. The listener may also have noticed that the phrases of the song begins on E major, suggesting E major as the tonic. However, A# is prevalent throughout the song and it can be argued that the chords employed lends weight to B major as the home key. This ambiguity is exploited by the surprising extension mentioned above, as the cadential point leads up to a B major chord but the E major chord is heard instead, as the opening chord of the extension phrase.
