In today's video I attempt to tell the kids a story about how Mr Topsy-Turvy turned into Mr Clever.

It's a true story!

When we moved in to our first house I had the one current account. The one I'd always had. That was now an account that I got my wages paid in, paid all my bills out of and that I used for day to day spending.

It was hard. A low income, loads of new bills that we weren't used to and a new baby.

There was always that one bill that came out part way through the month that caught me out and I didn't really know what we could spend every month.

And then I had an idea.

A second current account, which was solely for the bills. We worked out how much we needed each month to cover bills and to put a bit away as savings (paying ourselves first).

Whatever was left (and it wasn't much!) was, and still is, transferred to the other current account and that is our spending account.

This has really helped me not worry about bills as I know the cash is there each month to cover them.
