So it has been sometime since I released a cover but now it is time that I give you something new. Here is Umpah Umpah by SM Entertainment girl group, Red Velvet.
Umpah Umpah (Korean; 음파음파; eumpa-eumpa; lit: Sonic Wave) is a song writted by lyricist Jeon Gan-di and composed as well as produced by Swedes Christoffer Lauridsen, Andreas Öberg and Allison Kaplan and recorded by South Korean girl group Red Velvet for their seventh (ninth overall) Korean extended play The ReVe Festival: Day 2, which acts as the second installment of The ReVe Festival trilogy. The song, alongside its vacation-themed music video, was released on August 20, 2019 as the lead single from Day 2, and subsequently the second single from the group's trilogy. "Umpah Umpah" is described as "an uptempo dance song with disco house rhythms", combined with the group's "lovely and cool vocals double the freshness". The lyrics, which have a swimming motif, tell someone who fell in love with the eyes and charms of the girls how to "breathe normally", using the phrase "umpah umpah" as if their love interest was to breathe while learning how to swim.
Although Red Velvet debuted in 2014, I never got to know them totally until four years later after my summer break in the US. I researched on the group when I was working as a part-time tutor in RareJob and then got to know them fully. That is when my appreciation for them grew.
In 2020, we were all good to go to South Korea for the summer but it was cancelled and resceduled to a later date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While staying home for the next boring days, I found out that Red Velvet released a single the previous year, which was Umpah Umpah, and I then I got to listen to it and love it as it is.

ABOUT THE MASKED SERIES
The MASKED SERIES was put together on January 2018 after I discovered my masks in a storage. They consisted of a Iowa-era Joey Jordison, Eric Draven, Eric Carr, and of course, my design known as the JapSpitz. The thought of making a rock K-Pop cover back in 2013 and 2014 also became an element that helped form the MASKED SERIES in 2018. In April 2018, the masked series was first tested and launched with two different covers of two Blackpink singles, Boombayah and As If It's Your Last.
