Selene 6.23 is my favourite SHINee song. As someone who has been fascinated with the moon my whole life, I was excited to know there was someone else just as in love with the moon. Around the same time I wrote and recorded my English cover of “상사병(Symptoms)”, In 2014, I wrote the lyrics to the first verse and the first chorus. Then, I just stopped writing them for some reason. Finally, in May 2019, I revisited the song, and was able to write the remaining parts.

This video is really important to me right now, because it will likely be the last song and video I record in this apartment. I will be moving away and starting anew somewhere else.

I originally planned to release my cover on June 23rd, but I didn't have time to re-record the vocals. Then, I recorded this take quickly last week because I felt a cold coming. And, I was right... I ended up getting a sore throat in the following days, and my voice still has not healed itself. Soon, I will be even busier packing up my stuff, so I just resigned and uploaded this take.

The lyrics are particularly meaningful because Jonghyun composed the original seemingly for the moon and for the international fans. But, from my perspective, this is a story about me trying to reach him over the years. I basically threw myself at him in different ways by writing covers and original music, and singing to him, and though I was acknowledged, I feel I never quite reached him. I always feel so guilty about it, too. He didn’t need some weird international fan butting into his personal life while he was going through so much pain. And 1000 times again, I am so sorry, Jonghyun.

If you’ve seen my photocards that I’ve been handing out, the picture of Jonghyun at the beginning of the video is featured on them. I keep reusing it because it is the perfect depiction of how I feel about Jonghyun. SHINee was singing “Selene 6.23” while I was across the street – so close, but so far. During “The SHINing Special Party” last year, I hoped they would sing it, even though they had no reason to. Then, during the introduction of the band, the pianist started playing it, and I just started crying as SHINee and SHAWOL started singing it together… even if it was just up to the first chorus.
